  This Is My Dinner (Caldo Verde Records) Release Dates: Compact Disc: This Is My Dinner was written during Sun Kil Moon's November 2017 European tour. The album was recorded November 18, 2017 at TAPF Studio in Copenhagen and December 7, 8, 9, 2017 at Hyde Street Studios in San Francisco. Music by Tony Scherr, Ben Boye, and Ramon Fermin. Words by Mark Kozelek. The album includes versions of AC/DC's "Rock 'N' Roll Singer," The Partridge Family's "Come On Get Happy," and John Connolly's "Chapter 87 of He" set to music. Musicians include Tony Scherr, Jim White, Scott McPherson, Ben Boye, Ramon Fermin, Chris Connolly and special guest Jordan Cook.

Hotel #4 Release Date: May 1, 2018 Limited Edition Book A collaborative publication including Iris Smyles, Nona Fernández, Founded around eighteen months ago—and based between London, Belgium and New York—Hotel is a publication, both online and in print, run by a volunteer editorial collective. As a magazine dedicated to new approaches to fiction, non-fiction and poetry, Hotel establishes a foundation for experimental reflection on literature’s status as “art” and cultural mediator. Collaborators are offered total freedom to present work as they see fit rather than as within the remit of editorial mandate or curatorial consensus. Our masthead, to such an end, is simple: the hotel is our metaphor for the publication, writers come and take a room—do with it what they will—and, for the duration of their stay, the hotel is defined by its inhabitants, defined by the work that takes temporary residence therein. We look for editorial accidents in Hotel, building each issue around the ways in which each of the inhabitants speaks to their various neighbors, and let the work speak for itself. Hotel #4, our “blue” Hotel, numbers a series of poetic fragments—at turns essayistic and anecdotal—alongside short stories, prose-poems, and conversations that shift in focus from the bible to bible-burning—from the bedroom to bathroom—from the cinema to the shores of Lake Tahoe. Each piece a variation on some kind of blue, each piece harboring some kind of blue intimation.

Nick Zubeck Skydiving Release Date March 11, 2016. Track List: Nick Zubeck is a songwriter, guitarist, singer, teacher and recording artist from Toronto, and is currently living and working in Guelph, Ontario. He has recorded and released five full length albums under his own name, and has been involved with many other artists and projects over the last 15+ years. As a guitarist and sideman, Nick plays with Sun Kil Moon, and has contributed to many projects including Polmo Polpo, Barzin, Great Lake Swimmers, Old Maps, and Western Terrestrial. Skydiving, Nick's fifth full-length record, his first solo project since 2009, is a self-assured look at ubiquitous feelings of doubt, and the tribulations and serenity that come with acceptance. Zubeck takes his post-jazz pop sensibilities to new heights on Skydiving with the impeccable production of acclaimed producer/Constellation Records artist Sandro Perri, carefully arranged orchestrations, and dips into the experimental. This album sees Zubeck building on his years of experience to create a record that carefully handles poignant topics with mature reflections.

Among The Leaves Release Date May 29 - Caldo Verde Records (Will ship approximately 2 weeks before street date) Compact Disc Among The Leaves is the 5th full length album by Mark Kozelek under the Sun Kil Moon moniker. Played almost entirely on nylon string guitar, this 17-song all original album was recorded between October 2011 and January 2012 in San Francisco. Among The Leaves - words which caught Mark’s attention from a John Connolly novel - finds Mark relaxed, singing playfully about his life as a musician while retaining the melancholic spirit of his 20 year catalog. Mark’s love for San Francisco and Northern California are at the heart of this new album. “My first album (Down Colorful Hill) was released in 1992” says Kozelek, “but creatively, I feel like I’m just beginning. The new album was written and recorded impulsively, without second guessing. I didn’t have that kind of confidence in the past.” Unlike Red House Painters’ epic Rollercoaster, described by Rolling Stone as “the slowest and mopiest self revelations ever put to tape” or Sun Kil Moon’s Ghosts of the Great Highway, which Billboard Magazine called “heartbreaking,” Among The Leaves displays a more raw and humorous side of Mark’s songwriting. Aaron Prellwitz, recording engineer of Red House Painters and all 5 Sun Kil Moon albums describes the latest effort as “wonderfully direct." Kozelek curiously ties together legends Joe Frazier, Bobby Fischer and Ed Gein in ‘The Winery’, ‘‘Song for Richard Collopy’ is a touching tribute to the late San Francisco guitar repairman, and ‘Sunshine In Chicago’ – written just before taking the stage at a Chicago venue last year – is a funny, self deprecating poke at life on the road. Though Among The Leaves is mostly in the solo, nylon string style of Admiral Fell Promises, a new ensemble of players joined Mark for a portion of the record, recalling the same spirit as April and Tiny Cities, but with a fresh, new sound. The album will be available digitally, on vinyl, and as a LIMITED EDITION DOUBLE CD SET. Vinyl version will be released through Caldo Verde/Vinyl Films. Advance Base is the new musical project by Chicago, Illinois singer, songwriter, & producer Owen Ashworth (formerly of Casiotone for the Painfully Alone). A Shut-In's Prayer is Ashworth's first full-length release in over three years, & his first under the name Advance Base. Recorded at home & in piano practice rooms at the Chicago Public Library, A Shut-In's Prayer is an intimate collection of deliberately crafted but decidedly lo-fi torch songs, waltzes & ballads. Ashworth sings nostalgic stories about lost loves, childhood friends, estranged siblings, & hard feelings over simple drum machine rhythms & spare percussion. The arrangements that fill out these ten songs intertwine gentle electric & upright piano melodies, filling the spaces between plainly-sung harmony vocals & strummed autoharp chords, with the occasional creaking floorboard or snapping reverb spring to remind you of the cramped rooms where this album was recorded. It's a different sound than one might expect from the dude from Casiotone for the Painfully Alone, but Ashworth's keen ear for melody & idiosyncratic skill as a lyricist have only improved in recent years, pushing his memorable songwriting in all new directions. The songs reflect personal struggle, growth, breakthrough and truth-at least as we come to understand it. The recordings are raw and direct. The dialogue between Kath's performance of her heart felt songs and intuitive back up guitar of Francis T. Patnaude express the resonance of those moments-nothing more and nothing less. |
